Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Nature's Needs Humus
A. Natures Need Humus is a 100% high quality soil amendment, free of heavy metals and pesticide residues, that will revitalize and add micro life to your soil. We manufacture our humus from a variety of materials which include but are not limited to pre-consumer fruits and vegetables, yard debris, and wood chips.

Q. Why Use Nature's Needs Humus?
A. Soil is often "dead" due to over-fertilization and heavy pesticide use. Soil needs to contain active micro life such as bacteria, fungi, and nematodes to be productive and healthy. Humus will not only increase the micro life in your soil, but it will also improve nutrient and water retention along with soil structure. Having healthier soil will reduce disease and produce hearty and successful crops using less chemicals.

Q. How Do I Apply Nature's Needs Humus?
A. We typically recommend one-quarter inch depth dressing of Nature's Needs Humus on your soil. For farming applications, this would be about five tons per acre. Due to the high concentration of microbes per grams of humus, the typical recommendation is 1/4 inch to 1 inch top dressing.

Q. Why Is Nature's Needs Humus Better Quality than Regular Compost?
A. The feedstock used assures us that a diverse population of micro-life is present. Most compost that is sold is anaerobic, which means "without oxygen". Our humus is made in 300-foot rows called windrows. Beneficial microbes need oxygen and water to live, thrive and prosper. We provide both daily. Our humus is managed in a way that keeps it from going anaerobic. This variety of micro-life increases nutrient and water retention, improves the soil structure and aids in the suppression of disease. A soil that is full of micro-life is essential for long-term sustainability and productivity.
